Coat drive for seniors a success in Denham Springs

DENHAM SPRINGS - The winter coat drive for seniors in Denham Springs has been a success as donations continue to roll into the Livingston Council on Aging.

So far, the council on aging has collected around 240 coats and $500. For the seniors on the receiving end, the coats mean a lot.

"I'm very thankful. It's very handy and convenient at this time, and I thank God for it," said Idella Brandon.

Denham Springs Mayor Gerard Landry says Livingston Council on Aging Director Leila Faucheux got the idea of a coat collection from the WBRZ Pat's Coats for Kids drive.

"Instead of Pat's Coats for Kids, lets just do Leila's Coats for Seniors. We tried it in the city this year, and we'll roll it out parish-wide next year," said Landry. "We have to respect our seniors. I mean, they've been here for us all these years, and we have to try to help them in their golden years. We have to keep them healthy also."

Seniors can request a winter coat by contacting the Livingston Council on Aging. You can donate coats at any of the three fire stations in Denham Springs.
