BATON ROUGE- Spring is a great time to get up on a Saturday morning and go walk or run for a great cause. The Changing and Advancing Nutrition Now (CANN) 5k gives you the chance to do just that. This morning, Georgette Sterling and Charlene Montelaro stopped by 2une In to tell us more about the event.
The event is put on to bring awareness to childhood hunger and raise money for college scholarships. It's hosted by the Gamma Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in participation with the Ivy Foundation, and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
The Gamma Eta Omega chapter has promoted service in the community for over 60 years. Events like the CANN 5K help promote a sense of pride in Baton Rouge.
Summertime is hard for children growing up in poverty because they aren't guaranteed a meal for lunch, like they are when they're in school. This event raises money for the Baton Rouge Food Bank so they can help provide less-fortunate families with meals throughout the summer.
The CANN 5K is being held on Saturday, May 30th at Town Square at North Boulevard Town Square in Baton Rouge. The festivities begin at 9 a.m. You can register for this event here.
