Central Schools to take close look at security plans

CENTRAL - The latest school district taking stock of its security plans in the wake of the Sandy Hook school massacre in Connecticut is the Central School District.

"We can't prevent it from happening, but what we can do is we can be ready," Superintendent Michael Faulk told News 2.

To get ready the district will review all of its emergency plans and procedures, including those for severe weather and fire. Principals will conduct emergency drills in every category once a month.

Maps of each school campus are in the works so first responders will have a complete layout of every school in an emergency situation. The first priority is marking individual school buildings from the outside, so emergency responders will know exactly where to go on campus.

"There's always room for improvement, I'm glad they're really looking at what they've already got in place, and they're open minded to their may be better security measures," said community member Joice McCulley.

The superintendent has already identified three community members with extensive backgrounds in security who will help examine all school entry and exit points.
