Central residents handle flooding, power outages

Related Story

CENTRAL - Residents living in Bridlewood, a neighborhood sandwiched between the Comite and the Amite Rivers, are dealing with a lot of water that has nowhere to go.

Water from a nearby lake which feeds off Beaver Bayou flooded residents' yards and roads, coming inches from their front doors. Michelle Durr is new to the neighborhood, and nervously watched the water rise around her house.

"We don't know what to expect, we've never had to deal with this," said Durr. "I'm very nervous, I don't want my house to flood."

The flooding surrounded homes, and left front yards knee-deep in water. Residents fear another inch of rain will flood their homes, a real possiblity since the Comite and Amite Rivers won't crest until Friday.

Ronnie Chauvin has been living in his home for 34 years and said this is only the second time he's seen flooding this bad.

"We went and got sandbags, if the Amite River rises, then we will flood," said Chauvin.
