Cable guy wanted
BATON ROUGE - A Cox Communications contractor is running from deputies after a 14-year-old girl said she had consensual sex with him in her bed.
Christopher Hilton, 37, of Kentwood worked for Advantage Cable Services. The company does contract work for Cox.
Hilton went to the girl's home to remove equipment on June 23rd. The girl's parents were not home. The girl told deputies she and Hilton casually talked about soccer while he worked outside.
Investigators say the pair then went inside and the conversation started to get "sexual in nature". Hilton and the 14-year-old started kissing in the living room and then moved to the girl's bedroom where the two had intercourse, according to an arrest report.
After the alleged incident, the girl told deputies she and Hilton continued to talk via text messages. Deputies say those text messages, both sent and received, were sexually explicit at times.
Deputies contacted Hilton about the situation and scheduled an interview with him. Hilton told the investigator he would not show up for the interview.
Cox Communications and the contractor both require technicians to go through extensive background checks, which included a criminal history and sex offender registry data search. According to the companies, Hilton passed all of them when he was hired at the end of May.
Cox released a statement saying the company was "shocked" and "upset" to learn about the situation and will continue to work with authorities.
Hilton is no longer employed with either company.
"It's important to be aware of the risk, but it's really important that we really hold the expectation that people behave appropriately around children and not take advantage of those situations," STAR Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response Director Rebecca Marchiafava said.
A spokesperson with Advantage Cable Services says Hilton stopped coming to work after deputies showed up at his job and started asking questions.
Hilton is wanted for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
