Brusly burglar caught on camera

BRUSLY - Police in Brusly are on the lookout for a crook who kicked in a door, then went running when the home's alarm went off.

It happened in broad daylight in the Brusly Oaks Subdivision in off Louisiana Highway 1. Crime isn't something homeowner Rene Picard worried about too often.

"It's a very safe place to live and to think that we can be traumatized like that," Picard said.

Brusly Police Chief Jamie Whaley told News 2 it's not something they deal with that often.

"First one we've had in a long time," he said. "It's rare that something like this does happen in Brusly. We're fortunate."

The family is left with around $500 worth of damage to replace the home's back door. But Picard says being taken for granted is what hurts the most.

"That's the hard part, that he's human and he probably has family and still didn't care about someone else's family... interrupting their livelihood. It's just a sad day," she said.

After kicking through the door the crook made his way about six feet through the living room. The alarm went off and scared him away, but not before a surveillance camera snapped his picture.

"The picture's very blurry. Not the greatest quality... it looks like he was moving. I don't think there's much we can do with it. I can't recognize anybody from it, but maybe somebody out there can," said Whaley.

Brusly Police say they're working with neighbors to see if the crook was caught on camera somewhere else.
