BRPD officer hospitalized after morning crash on I-12 east
BATON ROUGE - All lanes on I-12 East are now open, after a crash involving a Baton Rouge Police officer shut down the interstate.
Police and EMS responded to the call around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The officer was transported to a local hospital.
Baton Rouge Police said the officer was responding to a call when he tried to pass a car on I-12. Investigators say the other car and the officer moved into the left lane at the same time. The officer then tried to move back into the right lane and lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete median wall.
BRPD said the officer is undergoing surgery for injuries sustained to his neck.
The officer's injures are unknown at this time. Police say preliminary information indicates that it was a single vehicle crash and the officer is okay.
