Bridge repair taking longer than expected

BATON ROUGE- People want answers after a bridge in their neighborhood has been closed for more than a year without the repairs they were promised.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, work on the Woodlake Drive bridge was delayed due to problems with utility relocation and malfunctioning equipment. DOTD sent an email today explaining the delay in the repairs.

The department says the problems have been fixed, and work begins next week to drive piles.

Residents of the White Oak Landing Subdivision told News 2 this year-long repair has inconvenienced them and hit their pockets hard.

"I calculated our fuel cost. It has increased over 50 percent, just since they did this. This has been for a year, which was about an extra thousand dollars per year," said Cindy Morris

The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, depending on weather. Despite all of this, the state claims the project is still in its allotted contract time.
