BATON ROUGE - Police said an arrest has been made in a Monday night shooting that left a well known local boxer in a coma.
Christopher Stills, 21, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals around 12:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Greenwell Street and booked into EBR Parish Prison on charges of attempted 2nd degree murder, as a felon in possession of a handgun and illegal use of a weapon.
An arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday for Stills for his suspected involvement in the Oct. 13 shooting of 39-year-old Emanuel Augustus.
Augustus was found shot near his boxing gloves and a gym bag Monday night on Louisiana Avenue near South 17th Street. He was taken to an area hospital with a bullet lodged in his head and remains in a coma.
On Wednesday, the boxer's family pleaded with Stills to turn himself in while Augustus remained in a coma. Doctors say it's a waiting game to see if he will recover from the life threatening gunshot wound.
Authorities have not discussed the possible motive for the shooting.
