Breakfast with 2une In: WBRZ's Fireworks over the Mississippi
BATON ROUGE- For almost five decades WBRZ has lit up the sky for Independence Day with our Fireworks on the Mississippi event. This year the USS Kidd is sponsoring the event. This morning News 2's Rebecca Buchanan was downtown at the Kidd finding the perfect spot to watch the celebration on Saturday.
The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. with live performances from local bands. The live music will continue well into the night until the fireworks begin. The event boasts the largest fireworks display in the entire state.
This year will also have some surprise guests. The contestants of the upcoming Miss USA pageant will be at the Independence show. They'll be watching the annual display from the USS Kidd.
City Pork in Baton Rouge will be hosting a hotdog eating contest for a few brave people at the celebration.
"Everyone should come out tomorrow," said one City Pork employee. "We're proud to be part of the festivities here. "
The hot dog contest is just one of the many entertaining activities that will be featured on Saturday.
Spectators will be able to catch the fireworks from either side of the Mississippi River. The explosive show will cap off what's guaranteed to be a full day of patriotic fun for the whole family. The fireworks will start at 9 p.m.
