Breakfast with 2une In: Galatoires
BATON ROUGE - The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is preparing for their 14th annual Derby After Dark. News 2's Rebecca Buchanan visited Galatoire's Bistro in Baton Rouge this morning to talk about the event.
JDRF is racing for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The auto immune disease keeps the pancreas from producing insulin. That prevents them from getting much needed energy from food.
Even though Type 1 Diabetes is commonly referred to as "Juvenile Diabetes", you can actually be diagnosed at any time. Once diagnosed, patients have to test their blood sugar and inject insulin daily.
The gala program has raised more than $3 million to date. That money has funded world-class research that brings scientists closed to finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. JDRF's mission is to eliminate as much of the impact on people's lives as they can, until a cure is reached.
This year's gala is Saturday, April 25th. It will feature a live and silent auction, as well as food from a long list of local restaurants.
