BATON ROUGE - After two years, the man who shot his pregnant wife is being sentenced next month.

Frank Atkins has been convicted of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

He is facing a life sentence and will go before the court one last time next month.

As a result of the shooting spree, the child his wife was carrying, died and she is now paralyzed from the chest down.

Parish District Attorney, Hillar Moore, weighed in on how the sentencing will most likely turn out.

"In Louisiana for life imprisonment, life is life. And he has no possibility for parole. Obviously there's always appeals possibilities, {but} we don't see any substantial grounds {for that} whatsoever," said Moore.

Atkins' wife, Kayla Atkins, said she will be at the sentencing to witness justice being served.

"I forgave him but he never apologized for what he did. And when I saw him, it just {brought} back all the bad memories from everything that he did to me," said Atkins.

Atkins has devoted her life to speaking out against domestic violence and she speaks around the city, telling her story.

Now, she is on a mission to raise money to buy a vehicle that has the capability to accommodate her wheelchair.
