BR teen says guns becoming a way of life
BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge teenager says many people he knows have started carrying guns for personal security, in an area that has seen three deadly shootings in recent days.
Joseph Reed, 17, says if young people feel threatened, the guns start coming out. Adding to the problems, Reed said gangs or "cliques" are operating in the area, some allegedly with ties to local rappers.
Reed says many kids have access to guns purchased legally, but illegal guns can always be found if someone has the money.
Baton Rouge Police confiscated 380 guns off the street over the past three months, according to public information officers. However, they recognize there are more guns out there, and said they need help from the public identifying problem individuals and homes.
Police are reluctant to acknowledge gang activity, but claim there is a constant monitoring of groups and trends involving young people.
