BR leads job growth in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE- The Capital City region led the way in job growth across the state adding 12,900 jobs in the last year, nearly half of the total job surge in Louisiana, which added 26,000 jobs.

The construction industry added the most jobs in the area with 8,000 more gigs than last year.

"Business is real good, we've got several jobs going on, in the last month I've been working on two or three different jobs, a lot of overtime," said Paul Papillion, a construction worker for Buquet & Leblanc.

Buquet & Leblanc is scrambling to keep up with demand as more projects hit the table.

"There's definitely a need for skilled labor right now, and we're constantly looking and there's plenty of opportunity for skilled labor right now," said Jake Mayo, VP of Field Operations for Buquet & Leblanc.

The booming job market may be just an initial indicator for the growth in the Red Stick.

"As new market entrants keep coming in, they're just going to drive more wealth into the community that leads to more sales and more market expansion, so that's what we're seeing happening right now is this sort of compounding effort of many years of successful economic development starting to lead to market growth as well," said Adam Knapp, president of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
