NAPOLEONVILLE - Authorities in Assumption Parish issued a parish-wide boil order Friday night after bacteria was detected was in the water system.
Emergency managers said Assumption Parish Waterworks detected E. coli in the system which serves parish water customers. Because of that, anyone served by APWW in the parish should boil water until further notice.
Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one full minute and then allow to cool before consuming, according to the Department of Health and Hospitals. This includes water used for food preparation, brushing your teeth, or bathing. Salt can be added to remove flat or metallic taste in boiled water.
APWW sent out more samples for testing today, and said more updates will be available Saturday.
Anyone with questions about the boil order should call (985) 369-6156.
