Body found in field
HAMMOND - A family is in shock after a human skeleton was found on their Tangipahoa Parish property.
Tuesday afternoon, family members discovered a skull and bones while clearing land on N. Brickyard Drive. Sheriff office investigators rushed to the scene and called in forensic experts from LSU to process evidence.
"You see it on the news somewhere else; not here," Laura Rivero said standing over where the body was found.
The remains were discovered near the back property line, and the family says the road behind the field is another quarter mile beyond where the body was found.
"[It's] very frightening," Rivero said, "because it's been here four months and no one knew about it. I hope they find out who it is."
Investigators are still trying to figure out if a crime was behind the unknown person's death.
