Board picks Warren Drake as new EBR Schools Superintendent
BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge School Board tapped former Zachary superintendent Warran Drake Thursday night to lead the parish's school system.
The board voted unanimously for Drake, who was picked over other finalist Charles Michel, the director of special education for Lafourche Parish Schools.
Drake worked for years in the EBR School system before leaving in 2002 to help create the Zachary Community School System. Since then Zachary has been either the top-rated public school or among the top each year in the state's performance rankings.
He replaces Bernard Taylor, whose contract ends this summer. Taylor and the system school board were often at odds with one another, and the board voted last year not to renew his contract.
