HHT is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 5,000 people. It's sometimes referred to as Osler-Weber-Rendu (OWR). The disorder is characterized by abnormal blood vessels. A person with HHT forms blood vessels that lack normal capillaries between arteries and veins.

The most common symptom of the disorder is common nose bleeds. One of the main dangers facing those with HHT, is an increased risk of stroke.

That's why LifeShare Blood Center will hold a series of blood drives to raise awareness. The next one is this Friday, June 27th from 1:00- 6:00 p.m. at the Walker Walmart. There's also one scheduled for Saturday, June 28th from 2:00- 7:00 p.m. at the Denham Springs Walmart.

If you can't make it out this weekend, you can donate three days a week at the LifeShare Blood Center in Baton Rouge (3849 North Blvd.) For more information, you can visit their website.
