Black Girls Run!

BATON ROUGE - It's 5am, but the women of the running group Black Girls Run are up and ready to hit the pavement.

As part of the nationwide organization that features 65,000 runners in 70 cities, the local BGR group has been growing, and the women running with the Baton Rouge group say it's been beneficial on many levels.

"I really can't explain the excitement about it," says runner and breast cancer survivor Kim Williams.

"Someone's out here every day. It's good to have a group of ladies that you can pretty much call your sisters."

Williams finding strength through the group is the norm, not the exception, and every woman WBRZ interviewed shared her excitement and enjoyment of the group.

The BGR website says the group was founded in 2009 to help "tackle the growing obesity epidemic in the African American community."

If you'd like to find out more about the organization, you can find the group Black Girls Run on Facebook.
