BATON ROUGE- At the corner of 69th Avenue and Somerset Drive, crime tape marks the spot where 22-year-old Gregory Alexander was gunned down, on January 1st, 2012.

"It hasn't been too good. Not a day goes by I don't think about my son," said Gloria Alexander.

She says her son was turning his life around and even working to get back in school, because he was trying to make things better for the son he never had the chance to meet.

"He was trying to get on with his life it just got taken away too short," said Alexander.

But as the year comes to a close, his killer still on the run.

"Why did they do it? I would want to know why. I'll pray for them and forgive them but I will still want to know why they did it," said Alexander.

And that's where the help of the community comes in.

"Please come forward. We need information from the community to solve murders. It takes a lot of work on our part to solve murders... it takes good police work and information from the community," said Cpl. Tommy Stubbs.

According to WBRZ records, out of Baton Rouge's 68 homicides, 30 haven't been solved.

"We've had a lot of success in 2012 with making arrest in our murder cases. If we just have one murder unsolved, that's still to many," said Stubbs.

The Alexanders are hoping not another year goes by without closure.

"I'm still praying and hoping that something come through. I haven't given up on it. I'm still praying for them to catch that person," said Gloria Alexander.
