Bank access returned to Port Allen CFO
PORT ALLEN - News 2 learned today that Chief Financial Officer Audrey McCain was reinstated to Port Allen's bank accounts, after ousted Mayor Deedy Slaughter removed her from them six months ago.
Mayor Pro Tem Ray Helen Lawrence authorized the reinstatement.
"Now that I can do the things that I was hired to do it helps me function more organized everyday," McCain said.
On Wednesday McCain and the former Payroll Clerk Robin Ackerman were in court for issues surrounding Deedy Slaughter. Slaughter was a no-show, despite the West Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court having a record that a subpoena was served at her house.
"We sent subpoenas which to my knowledge were served," Attorney Seth Dornier said.
McCain was in court to get things squared away before her trial against Slaughter. One issue was locating important documents that are missing from City Hall. McCain said she last saw Slaughter's Chief of Staff Ralph Slaughter with the documents along with Slaughter's attorney Ron Johnson at a court hearing in July.
"I don't know where they are," McCain said.
Since the documents are still not located and the former mayor didn't show up the hearing was moved. However, Dornier was also representing Robin Ackerman for a hearing in a separate matter today. Ackerman said she hopes to get rehired by the city now that Slaughter is gone.
"Unfortunately, I had to leave, but I'm happy to hopefully be going back," Ackerman said.
The city council would have to approve the rehiring of Ackerman. That could be done as early as next week.
A committee meeting is scheduled for tonight. We will have the latest on News 2 at 10.
