Audit reveals EBR money mismanagement
BATON ROUGE- Changes are coming to East Baton Rouge departments after an audit revealed mismanagement of thousands of dollars, $12,000 from the Department of Public Works alone.
The year-end audit revealed questionable purchases by the Metro Council using a city credit card, theft in the Department of Public Works, and DPW workers accused of payroll fraud.
Public works director David Guillory said his department has taken steps to fix the issues highlighted in the audit by streamlining procedures and adding new technology to help track workers.
"Technology is going to be our friend in all these incidents. We're implementing systems where we can track and monitor employees and productivity every minute," he said.
The audit is done on an annual basis to help plan the next budget cycle.
