Animal Control seeks information in mutilated cats investigation

BATON ROUGE - East Baton Rouge Animal Control investigators are taking steps to figure out who or what is behind the mysterious appearances of dismembered cats found in the Shenandoah community.

Bonnie McDaniel lives in the community and discovered a black cat cut open while walking through her neighbor's back yard.

"But all that was remaining there was the uppermost part, it's front paws, shoulders and head the rest of that cat was gone," McDaniel said.

This isn't the first cat found mutilated in the Shenandoah community. Three weeks ago, a resident in the same community found her cat in pieces on the lawn.

East Baton Rouge Animal Control Director, Hilton Cole, says this investigation is difficult because they've had several cats with different causes of death, and urges the community to come forward with information.

"I advised Crime Stoppers that we would like to get them involved in this because we think it's pretty serious situation and we wanted to work with them in order to solve this problem."

Eight days ago, another dismembered cat was found in the community and animal control sent the animal to a veterinarian.

"The veterinarian has advised us that the body we brought up here had no bite wounds on it at all. Looks like a clean cut, looks like the animal had been disembodied, dismembered, and that it was probably the work of a human," Cole said.

If you have any information, contact animal control and law enforcement.
