Ambrosia Bakery cranks out B.R.'s top king cake
BATON ROUGE - With Mardi Gras rapidly approaching, we posed the question of where we could get the best king cake in Baton Rouge and the answer was overwhelmingly "Ambrosia Bakery".
Ambrosia Bakery says they will sell around 20,000 king cakes this Mardi Gras season, and the traditional boost for the bakeries bottom line is always welcome. Ambrosia now ships the king cakes across the country, from coast-to-coast, so that king cake connoisseurs throughout the U.S. can sample the Louisiana tradition.
News 2's John Pastorek spoke with king cake crafting expert Felix Sherman who has been putting together the seasonal treat since 1982. He says that while the dough and filling are important, he thinks the love and skill that go into hand-making the cake are key to baking a successful king cake.
The Ambrosia Bakery offers online ordering on their website for those who want to try their king cake but can't get to the shop in person. They will continue to crank out the sugary, sweet delights all the way through Fat Tuesday.
