Accused shooter to appear in court

BATON ROUGE- A 16 year old charged in the shooting of Metro Councilman Chandler Loupe's son will appear in court tomorrow for a Detention Hearing.

Baton Rouge Police arrested the teen last night.  He was booked into the Parish Juvenile Detention Facility.  Right now, it is too early to tell if the teen will be charged as an adult.

"If he's charged as a juvenile, given the age of 16, the longest he could stay in prison is until he's 21," District Attorney Hillar Moore said.  "If he's charged as an adult, depending on the charge of attempted murder, he could face up to 50 years in prison."

Moore said he hopes someday people will stop settling their differences using violence.

"There's no conflict resolution skills in a certain group of people," Moore said. "They are just killing each other and bottom line is they are carrying guns at 16, 15 and 13.  The gun itself doesn't kill people, it's the people behind the gun."
