A homeless 'angel' lands in Vacherie

VACHERIE - Iwana Brown needed to find a home after spending months hiding and sleeping at a Tangipahoa Parish school.

Rhonva Jackson needed someone to help her handle the day-to-day challenges of dealing with a muscle disorder she'd had since she was a teen.

To each other, they were the angel the other person needed.

"I feel like God sent them here," said Jackson. "They're angels in disguise."

Brown told News 2 she became homeless after she and her husband divorced. She said she struggled for months to find a place to live, even hiding out at a Hammond school for a time.

More than two years ago Brown said a mutual friend introduced her to Jackson because the friend knew both women needed help. Brown moved into Jackson's home and since then has helped her get around the house and handle her disorder.

To help pay her back for the assistance, Jackson also took in Brown's four children who were staying with family members until Brown could get back on her feet.

"They didn't have to do this. My kids and I, (if) we want for anything... they one hundred percent take care of us," Brown said.

Jackson is also raising money for a new wheelchair and other equipment to help her get around with more ease. You can help by donating here.
