99 arrests made in truancy roundup
BATON ROUGE - 99 people have been arrested in a truancy roundup in Baton Rouge.
The Baton Rouge Police Department, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and Constable's Office conducted the two-day roundup.
Law enforcement agencies received 148 cases for follow-up from the Family Youth Service Center.
The cases involved students with unexcused absences and focused on those with a lot of absences. Parents of those children were given a summons and charged with improper supervision of a minor.
Parents with outstanding warrants were also booked into the parish jail.
Forty-nine cases are still open for investigation and possible arrests.
