6 PM: Missing girl reunited with father after mothers death

BATON ROUGE- Neighbors are startled a woman was shot and her body left in her car for days before being found.

Taylor Latham, 24, was shot in a car in her driveway on Louisiana Avenue near downtown Saturday.  Her body was found Monday.  Police said her daughter was missing after the shooting but was found Monday afternoon.

One woman who lived near Latham's home, Terri Bishop, said she heard the shots but didn't think much of it.

"The shots sounded like they were right here in the neighborhood," said Bishop, "But this isn't that good of a neighborhood, so you just kind of 'shoo' it off."

One man who lived down the street, Robert Perkins, said he noticed Latham's car was parked far back in the yard. He said Latham's body could have been discovered sooner had it been parked on the street as it usually was.

Latham had just moved to Baton Rouge from Dallas, Texas, a few months ago. She had few friends, but her two year old daughter, Akyleana, played with another girl across the street. That girl's mother, Ashanti Grier, described Latham as a good mother who was often seen playing outside with her daughter.

"I just don't understand why something like that would happen to someone who really doesn't bother anybody," said Grier.
