BATON ROUGE- The East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public Works is hoping to rework its community service hotline to be more efficient and quick.
The 311 service line has been open since 2005 for people to call in complaints about sewage, drainage, streets and trash. But city leaders admit the system can't keep up with the calls.
This year, DPW has dropped the call backlog down from six months to three or four months behind, but the department is hoping a new computer filing system will help wipe out the remaining complaints.
DPW says the system is cheaper and will not only help get more information from callers, but get that information to the correct departments and monitor the jobs with completion deadlines.
The Metro Council will start considering the new system next week and will vote on it the following week. If approved, the system should be up and running by the Spring.
