3 charged with gun store heist
BATON ROUGE - Police say they have arrested three men believed to be behind the burglary of more than 50 guns from a Baton Rouge firearms retailer.
Court records show DNA evidence linked one of the suspects to the crime scenes. When he was questioned, authorities told us they were able to further their investigation.
Investigators said 19-year-old Charles Evans, 23-year-old Geno Lyons and 19-year-old Oneal Thompson were taken into custody last night and charged with simple burglary and theft of a firearm.
The three men are accused of the burglary of Meaux Guns and Ammo on Mammoth Avenue that happened on July 6, according to Baton Rouge Police.
"Imagine anyone coming in your home uninvited," Owner, Joe Meaux said. "You do have that feeling of violation, trespassing, breaking in and it hits you to the core."
Detectives believe the arrested suspects are responsible for similar burglaries at Bowie Outfitters and an attempted burglary of Hebert's Guns in Gonzales on June 17.
"We've done a lot fo changes with our security just to kind of freshen and change things up," Meaux said.
A total of 82 guns were stolen between the pair of burglaries with 50 of those firearms coming from Meaux Guns. 11 of the guns and accessories were recovered Wednesday night.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the burglaries is urged to contacted the BRPD Burglary Division at (225) 389-3824.
