$2.5 million verdict
PORT ALLEN- The children of Les Miles' sister won $2.5 million in a lawsuit Friday in West Baton Rouge after their mother died at an intersection in 3 years ago, Frank Tomeny of Tomeny Law Firm said in a press release.
Jessie and Katie Browne sued the State of Louisiana and the Department of Transportation and Development after their mother, Anne Hope Browne, was killed in a car accident at the intersection of Sugar Plantation Parkway and LA 1 in Addis on April 2011.
"It means closure for these girls," said Tomeny. "They finally got some answers, they know what happened in the accident and DOTD has been found responsible for it."
The jury found while Browne was partially at fault for pulling out of Sugar Plantation Parkway while her view was blocked by a car turning right, the state and DOTD shared some of the blame because it had not fixed problems at the intersection after being notified about them.
DOTD put a temporary traffic signal at the intersection in March 2012 after three more people were killed there in December of 2011, according to Tomeny.
