15-year-old girl shot and killed in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Details have come to light in the early hours of Thursday morning regarding the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Au'Miracle McElwee.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting occurred on Wednesday around 10 p.m. in the 5100 block of Oaklon Avenue. Investigators say that McElwee was killed while in her vehicle, after she and her passengers interacted with other individuals in the area.
After the shooting, the vehicle traveled down Oaklon Avenue and struck street signs before coming to rest in a ditch near the intersection of Oaklon and Winchester Avenue.
McElwee was pronounced dead at the scene, however the passengers in the vehicle appeared unharmed.
There are no known suspects at the time of this post.
McElwee did not reside in the neighborhood, according to her family, and they do not know why she was there.
McElwee was last enrolled in Capitol Middle School in Baton Rouge, but withdrew from the system in October 2015. East Baton Rouge Parish school officials said she would have been in high school now, but she was not currently enrolled in their system.
