BATON ROUGE - The Southern Jags have survived day two of the SWAC baseball tournament, defeating Grambling State this morning, 8-0. The Tigers really hurt themselves with seven errors.
Southern's Jose de Leon threw a complete game shutout, striking out eight.
Jaguar freshman D.J. Wallace, the SWAC's freshman of the year, led the team at the plate with two hits and an RBI with a run scored. Jeremy Lopez also produced a pair of RBI.
Southern will now face the loser of the Alcorn State vs Mississippi Valley State winner's bracket game.

BATON ROUGE - The Southern Jaguars built a 4-0 lead heading into the eighth inning against Mississippi Valley State. Unfortunately, that lead would not last.
The Delta Devils scored six runs in the final two innings to shock the Jaguars 6-4 in the opening round of the SWAC Tournament at Lee Hines Field.
With the loss, Southern will play Grambling on Thursday morning at 9 AM in a tournament elimination game.
Mississippi Valley State advances on to play Alcorn State at 3 PM.

BATON ROUGE - The Southern bats came alive late, and the Jags pounded out 12 hits and 11 runs en route to an 11-1 victory in eight innings today over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
With their 16th straight win, the Jags (31-14, 17-7) claimed the SWAC West division title outight.
Derrick Hopkins, Cameron McGriff and Wilmy Marrero each had two hits for Southern. Pitcher Jose De Leon threw seven innings, surrendering just one run while striking out five.
The Jags will close out the season with three games against LSU-Eunice this week before hosting the SWAC tournament at Lee Hines Field next week.

BATON ROUGE - Jose De Leon threw seven shutout innings striking out eight, and the Southern Jaguars beat Jackson State today, 8-2.
Southern extends its win streak to 13. The Jaguars will conclude the SWAC regular season next weekend with a 3-game series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Lee-Hines Field.
Saturday's doubleheader begins with first pitch at noon. Sunday's matinee begins at 1 p.m.
After Southern concludes the regular season against LSU-Eunice on May 10-12, the Jaguars prepare for the 2012 SWAC Baseball Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. May 16-20.

BATON ROUGE - Behind a 4-5, 6 RBI performance from Stephen Wallace, the Southern Jags defeated UNO tonight, 9-4, at Lee Hines Field.
With their seventh straight win, the Jags improved to 22-14 on the season. They'll resume SWAC play this weekend on the road at Prairie View.
Daniel Garcia threw six solid innings, giving up two earned runs. Pedro Fargas was outstanding in relief, throwing three perfect frames, in which he did not surrender a hit or a walk.
