Zoning board approves controversial rezoning request
GONZALES- The zoning commission here approved the rezoning of some 350 acres near I-10 and Highway 44.
The owners of the vast, empty property wanted it rezoned to hopefully sell it for as much as $10 million. Their plan would be for a developer to create a mixed-use type of community.
Commissioners decided Tuesday to approve the request for rezoning but added requirements about the future development.
Some projects would need to be individually approved by the commission.
The Gonzales City Council has to make the final decision. The group meets next week.
