Zimmerman attorney says apology was ill-timed
SANFORD, Fla.- He's no longer behind bars -- and he might not even still be in Florida.
George Zimmerman was released on bail overnight from the jail near Orlando where he's been held since he was charged with second-degree murder in the death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin. For his safety, no one was saying where he was headed.
His attorney, meanwhile, says Zimmerman wouldn't have apologized during last week's bond hearing if he'd known the teen's family felt it was the wrong time.
Zimmerman's bond hearing Friday took a surprising turn when he took the witness stand and apologized to Martin's family for the loss of their son. But an attorney for Martin's family spurned the apology.
