GRAMERCY – The president of Zapp’s potato chips says they will stay in Gramercy after the company agreed to join with another snack food company out of Pennsylvania.
Rod Olson told News 2 that they signed a letter of intent to combine Zappe Endeavors, LLC with Utz Quality Food, Inc. He said the deal is expected to bring more sales, wider distribution and increased employment for both companies.
"This is good news for the family, for the company, and for the employees in Gramercy,” Olson said in a phone interview.
“My goal was to see this company go another 50 years, and I'm confident that this will do that.”
Utz Quality Foods is the largest independently-owned snack food company in the U. S., according to a press release from Zapp’s, and employs more than 2,400 people.
The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2011.
