ZACHARY- Reports of brown widow spiders, are coming in from all over the state. The most recent sighting is in Zachary where a woman says she spotted one of the potentially deadly critters outside her house.

Danielle Kinler says her daughter saw the spider outside of the door of their home Sunday morning.

She wasted no time killing it, but, Kinler says it wasn't until after a google search on her phone, she realized that it had been a poisonous brown widow at her front door.

Kinler says, " I'm glad we didn't know what it was before I killed it. "

Kinler's close encounter isn't an isolated incident.

According to LSU AgCenter officials, brown widows are all over the state and they've been here for a while.

Dr. Dennis Ring says, " It's a shy spider so after Katrina people left. The spiders moved into areas they usually wouldn't be in. And when people moved back, there was a greater interaction between people and the spiders."

Dr. Ring explains that brown widows are related to black widows. He says, the main difference is their color.

If one bites you it's very serious. " If you're bitten by one of these spiders you need to seek medical attention."

In some cases, a bite can even by deadly. Children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are more at risk if they are bitten.
