Zachary robber strikes during busy weekend
ZACHARY- Zachary Police are looking for a man who robbed the Payless Shoe Store on Main Street Saturday.
The crime was caught by a surveillance camera. Witnesses say the suspect held up his jacket and showed the employee a gun in his waistband. The say he left the store in a silver or gray SUV.
Police say crime like this often spike during the holidays. Zachary Police Chief David McDavid says retailers should watch customers inside the store and watch for suspicious activity outside the store. Chief McDavid says criminals may watch a store for an extended time before taking action.
2010 numbers for Baton Rouge Police indicate a spike in crime around the holidays. The city averaged 72 robberies for the first eight months of the year. The average climbed to 94 robberies for the last four months.
