ZACHARY- The Zachary Public Cemetery is under fire after receiving several complaints from family members who can't find their loved ones.
Issues like misplaced caskets, tombstones and unmaintained burial records have been reported to the mayor's office. But the town of Zachary can't do much, because the cemetery is privately owned.
People working on the complaints said they have had no luck getting any action from the people who oversee the cemetery. When contacted by News 2 about the complaints, she told us she had no comment.
Today News 2 also spoke with two families who have no idea what happened to their loved one's graves, and they're demanding action.
"Really I want to see justice for everybody," said Renay Brown. "The ones who can't come out here and stand up for themselves... I would like to see something get done about it today."
According to the Louisiana Cemetery Board's website, the cemetery owners could face fines and jail time if found in violation of state regulations.
