Zachary High School students disciplined for hazing
ZACHARY - The school system took disciplinary action against a number of Zachary High School students after hazing allegation surfaced earlier this week.
Zachary Police Chief David McDavid calls the alleged hazing incident involving boys "sexual in nature", but he didn't know the full details of what happened.
News 2 has learned those involved have been expelled from Zachary High. McDavid said the police department has not filed formal charges because neither of the victim's parents nor the school system has requested them to do so.
McDavid said the incident may have been spawned off of the sexual assault Alabama fan Brian Downing is accused of following the BCS National Championship Game at a restaurant on Bourbon Street earlier this month.
New Orleans Police said Downing rubbed his privates on an LSU fan who had passed out. McDavid said that video many have influenced the kids.
"It was seen all over the world, and I'm sure [these kids] got to see as well as anybody else," McDavid said.
The school system confirmed hazing among students took place, but wouldn't confirm the exact story many parents told News 2.
