Youth get second chance at trip after safe stolen
WALKER - After thieves nabbed a 300-pound safe from Walker Baptist Church, their youth group are scrambling to make sure they have enough money to pay for their summer trips.
"First thing I thought about was what they stole, and I was like, that's all our trip money," said Jacob Jordan, a youth group member of the church for seven years. "And I've been going on trips every year, so I was worried that a lot of the kids who go on trips wouldn't be able to."
The youth group leader, Brother Ray McCon, told News 2 the theft won't jeopardize the various trips for the kids.
"We do send a lot of kids to camp every year that just can't afford to go, we scholarship them, we get sponsors for them," said McCon. "It's gonna happen, the church is gonna make sure these kids go to camp, one way or the other."
If you would like to help sponsor a kid on their youth trip contact the church at 225-665-8368 or visit their website.
