BATON ROUGE- A nearly 50 year tradition continued Friday night with the annual WBRZ's Fireworks on the Mississippi.
At 9 p.m., fireworks shot into the air over the river and exploded in a vibrant show paying homage to our nation's history. The display happens each year on the 4th of July.
"This is what this country is all about. This day was our fathers claiming that we will no longer tolerate tyranny," said Robbie Argrave as he watched the fireworks explode over downtown.
The display drew thousands to the riverbanks on both sides of the river. Many families make it a tradition to enjoy the summer evening and watch the excitement unfold above them.
