'Year of the Bible' Resolution called Unconstitutional
A resolution on the Bible passed by the Pennsylvania State House is called unconstitutional by a group that includes atheists and agnostics. The resolution declared 2012 the "Year of the Bible" and the Freedom from Religion Foundation sued the measure's sponsor, the House clerk and the House parliamentarian. It was passed unanimously in January but the group asked a federal judge to stop Pennsylvania from publishing and distributing the resolution and to rule that state government is not Judeo-Christian. The resolution notes the Bible's "formative influence" and says there's a "national need to study and apply" scripture.
