The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is weeks away, but Xavier University in New Orleans will get an early start with a Jazz Festival of its own starting April 22.

The university said in a news release Wednesday that the three-day event will feature performances by well known New Orleans musicians such as pianist Ellis Marsalis.

It also will include a clinic and workshop featuring one-hour lectures with established jazz artists.
