"X Factor" contestant arrested after stealing car in Slidell
SLIDELL - A Florida man, who was in south Louisiana for auditions of the reality television show "The X Factor", has been arrested on a slew of charges after stealing a car and leading police on a high speed chase.
Around 8:15pm Monday night, Slidell Police say a man left his car running as he went into the Kangaroo Gas Station on Voters Road.
That is when 20-year-old Orrion Wilson jumped into the car, tossed his suitcase in the back seat, and took off.
The vehicle owner immediately called Slidell Police, who swarmed the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle.
A short while later, police spotted the stolen vehicle, which was being driven by Wilson, and attempted to stop it. Wilson refused to stop and led Slidell Police on a high speed chase.
After a short chase, police caught up with Wilson and arrested him.
Wilson told police that he took a plane to New Orleans in order to attend "The X Factor" auditions, but after the auditions were over, he didn't have enough money to get back home to Florida.
That's when he said he had no choice but to steal the vehicle.
Wilson was booked into the Slidell City Jail on a number of charges including Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Resisting an Officer.
There's no word if Wilson will be out of jail in time to attend next week's auditions of "The X Factor".
