BATON ROUGE- Sentencing was moved back a month for the man convicted of attacking a family at an East Baton Rouge Parish gas station two years ago.

Jurors found Donald Dickerson guilty of second degree battery in a brutal attack at a gas station two years ago. According to prosecutors, Dickerson told David Ray and his family "they were in the wrong neighborhood and wouldn't make it out" before attacking Ray and knocking him unconscious. Prosecutors decided not to pursure hate crime charges.

Earlier this year Dickerson was found guilty of second degree battery and is now facing the possibility of a life sentence for being a habitual offender.

"He has four prior offenses," District Attorney Hillar Moore said. "Purse snatching, armed robbery, federal gun charge and felony sex offense, that's four convictions and this is his fifth."

Dickerson's sentencing was pushed back to Jan. 22 according to the District Attorney's Office.
