Wreck report complete in death of kids fishing
GEISMAR - State Police said they've finished their report into the crash that killed two children while the kids were fishing with their father in Ascension Parish, and that no arrests would be coming at this time.
Trooper Jared Sandifer said the report did not find conclusive evidence at this time of criminal negligence on the part of the driver, 47-year-old Shawnette Taylor of Prairieville.
Investigators said Taylor drove off the side of Bluff Road on June 24, and her SUV went down a steep bank before hitting the fishing group. Troopers said Saria Lanus, 9, and her brother Daylon Lanus, Jr., 6, died at the scene while their father and some family friends were injured.
Sandifer said this is still an active investigation until the district attorney's office is through with it. He said it's possible the DA could take the matter to a grand jury.
