BATON ROUGE - Louisiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 64 east of US 61 Thursday morning that killed a Jackson, La. woman.
Melinda Messer, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which happened around 7 a.m.
Police say Messer ran off the road on LA 64 east, lost control of her vehicle, overcorrected twice, and entered the westbound lane where an oncoming truck struck her.
The driver of the truck and passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Troopers do not suspect impairment in the crash but submitted a sample of Messer's blood for analysis as a precaution.
The driver of the truck submitted to a breath sample which showed he had no alcohol in his system.
Police say visibility was diminished due to fog at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
