Workers monitored at hospital following chemical exposure at plant
GEISMAR- Employees at the Rubicon facility on Highway 75 in Ascension Parish are being observed for exposure to nitro benzene.
A company spokesperson said there was a release of the solvent when a ruptured disk blew around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon. Six employees were showered on site. Three of the six were taken to an area hospital for precautionary observation, Shannon Arceneaux said. Arceneaux is in charge of human resources and public relations for the facility.
Arceneaux suggested the employees who were taken to the hospital are fine and will likely go home tonight.
State Police were called, a standard move following a chemical release. Everything was cleared by 2 p.m. and there was no off-site impact, Arceneaux said.
