Workers, customers arrested in smoke shop raids
BAKER - Police and narcotics agents arrested four people during raids on two stores selling synthetic marijuana Friday in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The raids happened at the Fin Smoke Shop in Baker, and Fun Time Novelties Smoke Shop in Baton Rouge.
Baton Rouge Police Narcotics and the BRAVE initiative seized boxes of packaged synthetic marijuana, as well as chemicals they said were used to make the drug. Investigators also seized computers from the two locations.
Baker Police assisted in the operation.
Authorities and state health officials issued a health alert Thursday warning people about a recent wave of overdoses due to synthetic marijuana. The Department of Health and Hospitals issued a new ban on the drug, which has multiple chemical makeups intended to help it avoid being banned.
